FORMATResearch overview

01 / THE QUESTION

What makes an AI fitness tool worth using?

The study explored how personalization, social interaction, and trust shape interest in AI-powered fitness. The goal was to inform a health app concept grounded in people’s motivations and concerns.

02 / THE APPROACH

Pair personal stories with broader patterns.

Five in-depth interviews and 87 validated survey responses combined qualitative insight with quantitative analysis. The research also used analogous inspiration to explore possibilities for a gamified health experience.

03 / THE FINDING

Useful recommendations are only part of the experience.

In the survey, 74.7% wanted personalized AI. Personalization and social interaction were associated with adoption interest, while privacy and data security concerns were reported by 47%. These findings made trust a central design consideration alongside motivation and tailored support.

DESIGN IMPLICATION

Design for the confidence to participate, as well as the motivation to begin.
